Our newest Digital Media Planner, Colleen McDonough, is a lifelong New Orleanian and expert on all things digital.
So what does it mean to be a Digital Media Planner?
First of all, I love what I do. As a Digital Media Planner here at Morgan & Co., I work with our clients to create marketing campaigns using a number of digital options – everything from Facebook and Instagram content creation and ad placement, to online banner ads and sponsored content. There are so many options for spreading the word on behalf of our clients in a targeted way. It’s amazing what’s at our fingertips to create very personalized, successful campaigns, and the digital landscape is changing every day.
What were you up to before joining the Morgan & Co. team?
After graduating with a degree in public relations, I spent time doing political communications on behalf of the New Orleans City Council. That led into an opportunity at WDSU, New Orleans’ NBC affiliate. It’s funny – I never thought I’d work in media, but I excelled and really enjoyed the work, and I found my love for all things digital. During my time at WDSU I did everything from design online ads to monitor campaign success to TV and digital ad sales. I was truly fascinated by the products and our offerings, and loved the ever-changing nature of the work.
What brought you to Morgan & Co.?
After spending time on a very small political communications team, plus my years in the broadcast media world, I became very interested in understanding how the agency side of the marketing industry worked. I’d heard wonderful things about this team, and they have a fantastic client roster. Morgan & Co. seemed like a natural next step for my career. In my time here so far, I’ve learned so much and have begun building solid relationships with our clients and partners. I appreciate that Eric encourages us to get involved in the industry outside of work by joining organizations and serving in leadership roles.
Tell me about the “awesome factor” of your work.
For me, it’s the client reaction. Whenever a client is super happy, I’m super happy. Despite the fact that digital media can be confusing, we’re able to translate raw numbers to real results because we’re so thorough with our reporting. Our clients appreciate how in depth we go when reporting their success. Reporting is definitely what sets us apart.
The digital world is changing every day, and that means that our strategies are ever changing. We have to be on our toes – and our ability to keep up with trends and analyze the numbers is why our clients trust us. I love talking with clients, being inspired by their creative, and helping them pinpoint their campaign. Trust me, this is fun. It’s definitely not just staring at numbers all the time.
